World’s Largest Cane Toad: So large in size that the wildlife officers of the forest mistook it for a toy! This monstrous ken frog is said to be six times the size of normal ken frogs.
Toadzilla: Giant Cane Toad (Cane Toad: World’s Largest Frog) or Cane Toad Frog was found in a forest in Northern Australia. Wildlife experts claim that this is the largest frog in the world. So big in size that the wildlife officers of that forest mistook it for a toy! This monstrous ken frog is said to be six times the size of normal ken frogs.
Experts are claiming that this Ken Toad can break the record of the world’s largest frog in terms of size and volume. The frog was rescued by park ranger Kylie Gray. He said he first saw a snake while working on the track at the National Part. Then he noticed the frog, which he initially thought was a prop.
As he got closer, he saw what he thought was a prop moving. In his words, “Going closer, I caught this frog. I could not believe that such a big frog could exist and it could be so strong. We named it Toadzilla. Then put the animal in a container, so that it can be properly maintained.”
After that, Kylie and her team went to measure the weight of ‘Todzilla’. When they saw 2.7 kg on the scale, the topic of the record was on their minds. They clearly understood that this frog had all the potential to set a new record. According to a BBC report, the Guinness World Record for the world’s largest frog was held in 1991 by a pet frog named ‘Prinsen’ in Sweden.
Kylie believes this toadzilla gained weight by eating large amounts of insects, reptiles and small mammals. In his words, “They can eat whatever they can fit in their mouth.” Incidentally, these frogs were once used to extract insects from cane. Hence their name Ken Toad.
But according to how big a ken toad is in size, their names are also different. Why toads are sometimes called giant toads, sometimes marine toads—what to call when depends entirely on their size. A typical Kane toad can grow up to 5.9 inches in height. They are one of Australia’s most invasive species and can be quite terrifying to native wildlife, even if a snake gets into their mouth.
